About the artist:
1940-2013
A world-renowned Czech printmaker, painter, and illustrator. He studied at the Academy of Arts, Architecture, and Design in Prague under Professor Karel Svolinský. To the general public, he is best known as the designer of current Czech banknotes and numerous postage stamps. His work is characterized by brilliant draftsmanship, masterful command of figural composition, and the frequent use of allegories or elements of Baroque aesthetics. He received many prestigious international awards for his work.
