About the artist:
1919-1996
A prominent Czech painter, graphic artist, and illustrator whose work evolved through several phases, ranging from Cubism to Lyrical Abstraction. He studied at the Czech Technical University under professors Blažíček, Koutský, and Bouda, and later at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design (UMPRUM) in the studio of Josef Novák. In his late period, which includes this 1985 piece, he frequently focused on organic forms, stones, and natural details, rendered with extraordinary delicacy and a masterful sense of color harmony.
