About the artist:
1928–2002
One of the most prominent Czech painters, graphic artists, and illustrators of the 20th century. He studied at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design (UMPRUM) in the studio of Karel Svolinský. His work is built on deep poetics, silence, and minimalism. A signature feature is his delicate coloring and a focus on forms that often dissolve into a misty haze. His most frequent subjects include still lifes, figures, and architectural elements (arcades, windows), all imbued with a powerful emotional and almost dreamlike quality.
